OUR STORY
It was 1990, a few years after Oboe, my ridge-less Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue, had passed away. I was living in NY and found a Ridgeback breeder nearby, so I brought home a gorgeous light wheaten female. She was about 10 weeks old and followed me wherever I would go. Her loyalty was remarkable, and if I had to step out, I knew she'd be waiting for my return by the front door. This brought to mind Odysseus' wife, Penelope, who cunningly avoided the advances of many suiters to wait loyally for Odysseus' return. Thus, my new Ridgeback was named Penelope II. In theme with Homer's Odyssey and Greek mythology, I named my kennel Parnassus after the mountain on which the poets, artists and the gods were said to reside. As it were, Penelope is known worldwide as a truly exemplary Ridgeback. Featured in the AKC's The Complete Dog Book: 20th Edition, 2006, pp. 209-213. and designated as a Distinguished Dam by the Rhodesian Ridgeback club magazine, Penelope was a once-in-a-lifetime companion, dam, and show dog.
